The South American açaí palm, also called “the tree of life”, produces a small berry rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. This fruit grows in the Amazon forest and is an important food for the indigenous tribes of the Amazon and of Brazil. Its appearance is similar to that of a blueberry, but it has a unique flavour that resembles that of chocolate. Açaí has been said to have therapeutic properties, with its content of dietary fibre; vitamins A, B, C and E; minerals; metals; phytosterols; antioxidants and monounsaturated fats.
